Donating
Can I make a donation if I am not a US tax Payer?
Anyone can make a donation online whether they are American Tax Paper, English Tax Payer, or wherever they pay tax! The only difference will be that when we launch the online donation capability, only US tax payers will be able to claim tax exemption on their generous gift. We are working on other tax jurisdictions such as Canada, UK and Australia, but these will not be launched just yet.
Can I make a monthly donation form my Credit Card
Absolutely. We would prefer it if you do as it helps us with planning our grants and budgets. You will find the monthly option right next to the one off option, but it is clearly marked.
What is the minimum that I can give as a donation
$5 as a one-off donation, but whilst we welcome every donation no matter its size or frequency, we would hope that you could stretch to at least a the equivalent of a couple of Latte coffees – about $10!
Is my donation Tax deductible?
As soon as the IRS provides our tax exempt status, all US donation will be tax exempt-able. We will be working to broaden this to other tax jurisdictions in the near future
Will you be setting up a UK site eligible for GiftAid?
We sincerely hope so. it is in our plan for early 2011.
Grant Applications
Who can apply for the grants and awards
The short answer is anyone. The slightly longer answer is it depends on the Award. For all our grants and awards we do not discriminate by age, sex, race or nationality. However for some awards – the Pro-NGO grant for example this is restricted to working photographers in partnership with an NGO and for the Mentoring grants these are restricted to members of the International Guild of Visual Peacemakers community – but this community is open to anyone.
I am not a US citizen – Can make an application?
Absolutely you can. We make no restriction at all on nationality.
Can I apply for multiple grants at the same time or the same year?
You may apply for multiple grants, but you can only win one in any calendar year. We will make no comparative judgment between your applications, but we advise that you identify which type of grant or award you are applying for and then prioritize your applications accordingly.
How often are the grants available?
We run the NGO Assignment Fellowship grant and the FFH Fellowship annually. We will run the workshop and the mentoring grants quarterly from 2011. If donations allow we will increase the number and frequency of the major grants to more than annually.
Who are the judges?
For the FFH Fellowship, mentoring and workshop grants, our judges are all members of our advisory council, membership of which is by invitation only. Each has been invited because of their reputation, experience and standing as a humanitarian or travel photographer. For the NGO
How will I know if I have won?

Grants and Awards
Will you be making any new grants this year?
In our first year we will do the FFH scholarship and the NGO-Pro grant. We will then look to expand to the Mentoring and Workshop grants as soon as possible, but no later than January 2011.
Who can apply for the NGO Assignment Fellowship grant
Working photographers who are registered on our site and who make a joint submission with an NGO.
Membership
I am an NGO. How can I get listed?
Click on the Register option at the top right of the home page, and make sure that you select NGO from the Type of Membership drop down box during registration
I am an NGO – How do I get to be part of the NGO Assignement Fellowship grant?
You need to approach one of the photographers and make a joint submission. This could be a member of our Advisory Board, a registered photographer on our site or a photographer that you already use (in which case they will need to register).
You keep mentioning the IGVP. Who are they are what is your relationships with them?
The IGVP is the International Guild of Visual Peacemakers. This is an online community dedicated to helping photographers use their visual story telling capabilities for great humanity and to help world peace. Their site is a paid for membership site (it is only a couple of dollars a month) and their governing Guild are made up of some of the worlds finest humanitarian photographers and visual storytellers – many of whom sit on our advisory council.
Our relationship is one based on shared objectives and goals. However there is absolutely no legal, investor or financial connection between the two organizations. We love what they do and just want to help. Simple as that.
Helping out
How can I keep up to date with the foundation’s news?
Follow us on facebook and on twitter and also sign up for our quarterly newsletter.
How do you choose your advisory board?
Through reputation mainly. We know most of the leading photographers in the field. We build close relationships with then first and then when we are sure there is a string bond between our aspirations, their work and our shared love of humanity, we pop the question.
I am a professional photographer. I’d like to help. Can I be considered for the advisory board?
Of course. we’d be delighted to find out more about you. Just head over to the contact form, and drop us a line and we’ll be in touch. Or of course you can DM us on twitter or email us. Great! we’re looking forward to hearing from you
Finances
How much of the money you raise goes on admin and costs?
In our first ear it is difficult to know because there are set-up costs and so on. But our aim is that a maximum of 7% of our income goes on operational costs ie 93% if money raised is re-distributed by grants, This is unusually high and we do this by running a virtual company, making use of the web as much as possible (like Skype) and some good old fashioned cost management.
How do I know my donation will be used properly?
We report annually exactly where all the money went. We do this formally to the US government but also we put everything on line for you to see. We believe in complete transparency.
Who are the Foundation accountable to?
To you – well, to you and to the US Government. But i our hearts, to you. You are the ones that make this possible and we believe you have every right to ask whatever you want to know and to have full transparency of what we are up to.
Sponsorship
I am a potential sponsor. Where can I get some more information on sponsorship opportunities?
